The Christmas market in Hungary has been recognized as the most beautiful in Europe

Tourists are advised to definitely visit the Christmas town in Hungary this year.

The Advent Bazilika Christmas market in the Hungarian capital Budapest was recognized as the most beautiful in Europe to visit in 2026.

Experts from the travel portal Europe’s Best Destinations came to this conclusion after studying thousands of Christmas towns across Europe. First, independent specialized journalists compiled a shortlist of 40 fairs, and then more than 11,000 travelers from around the world voted to choose the winners.

As a result, the list includes both recognized Christmas capitals and historic fairs with a romantic atmosphere, as well as new‑generation holiday destinations that combine tradition, creativity, gastronomy, and unique decorations, the rating’s compilers note.

The Advent Bazilika fair in Budapest, which took first place, is located against the backdrop of the majestic St. Stephen’s Basilica. It harmoniously combines traditional Hungarian crafts and gastronomy with spectacular light projections, festive performances, and a special atmosphere that transforms the centre of Budapest during the Christmas period.

Analysts note that Advent Bazilika has repeatedly been ranked among the best Christmas markets in Europe, demonstrating a level of stability that few festive events can boast of, and proving that the Christmas tradition can be constantly updated without losing its unique character.

In addition to Budapest, this year’s ranking covers a wide range of European destinations, offering a chance to look at Christmas from different angles: from the imperial elegance of Vienna to the historical traditions of Strasbourg and Dresden, the fairy‑tale beauty of Prague and Tallinn, as well as unique festive locations in smaller towns.

In total, the final ranking included nine Christmas markets across the European continent.
