At this unique establishment, guests are offered a series of cocktails that reveal various ingredients and preparation methods.
Europe dominates this year’s ranking of the 50 best bars in the world: 18 establishments from the continent made it into the top half of the hundred. Euronews reports that Hong Kong’s Bar Leone kept the No. 1 spot, while Milan’s Moebius Milano and Athens’ Line both made the top five.
Of the 50 best bars in the world, 18 are in Europe. The results were announced on Wednesday at a ceremony in Milan. Two European establishments made the top ten — Moebius Milano from Milan and Line from Athens.
“Europe is the clear leader by number of bars in the ranking, with 18 in total. Another 18 European bars appear on the extended list at positions 51–100. That means Europe holds more than a third of all places among the 100 bars. Italy stood out in particular: Moebius Milano took second place in the world and is the best bar in Europe. Another Italian bar, Locale Firenze in Florence, came in 33rd,” the article says.
For the first time, Paris has overtaken London as the European city with the most bars in the top 50. Four Paris bars made the list: The Cambridge Public House in 13th place, Bar Nouveau in 15th, newcomer De Vie in 23rd and Danico in 26th. That puts Paris level with Hong Kong and New York.
London is well represented too. Its highest-ranked bar is Connaught Bar, in eighth place. Satan’s Whiskers came in 29th, and newcomer Waltz in 32nd.
Athens has three bars on the list. Line is the highest, in fifth place. The Bar in Front of the Bar jumped 28 positions to 19th and won the Nikka Highest Climber Award for the biggest rise in the ranking. The third Athens bar is Barro Negro, in 40th place.
Spain has three bars on the list. Two are in Barcelona: Sips in 16th place and Paradiso in 17th. Madrid’s Angelita debuts in 50th. Paradiso also won the Rémy Martin Legend of the List award.
The top five spans several countries and very different kinds of bars. The organizers suggest that cocktail fans add all of them to their must-visit list.
The five best bars in the world
1. Bar Leone, Hong Kong
Italian bartender Lorenzo Antorini opened this bar in Hong Kong in 2023. He wanted to recreate the feel of a traditional Roman neighborhood bar.
The focus is on classic Italian aperitivos, simple but well-made cocktails and a relaxed mood. Though it opened fairly recently, Bar Leone has already become one of Hong Kong’s best-known bars.
2. Moebius Milano, Milan
Milan’s Moebius Milano climbed a long way this year. It placed seventh last year and is now second.
The bar is part of a large venue in a former textile factory. Under one roof you’ll find cocktails, food, music and design.
The menu mixes classic cocktails with experimental signature drinks. The industrial interior gives the place a distinctly modern Milanese look.
3. Alquímico, Cartagena
Alquímico, in the Colombian city of Cartagena, took third place. That makes it the highest-ranked bar outside Europe and Asia.
It is in a restored colonial mansion in the city center and fills three floors. Each floor has its own atmosphere and its own cocktail menu.
The drinks draw heavily on Colombian ingredients and local food traditions. The team works with local produce and traditional techniques, and the menu changes with the seasons.
4. Bar Us, Bangkok
Bangkok’s Bar Us took fourth place, the highest of any bar from the Thai capital on the list.
This intimate bar treats cocktails like a tasting menu. The drinks are made from seasonal ingredients, with close attention to how the flavors work together.
Instead of an ordinary drinks list, guests get a sequence of cocktails that show off different ingredients and techniques. It’s one more sign that Bangkok is becoming a major cocktail capital in Asia.
5. Line, Athens
Athens’ Line rose to fifth place, making it the second-best bar in Europe this year.
The bar is housed in a former art gallery, which matters a lot to the Greek capital. Its cocktails are known for their heavy use of fermentation.
Many ingredients are made right at the bar, including fermented fruits, syrups and other components of the drinks.
The result is a menu that pairs Greek produce with distinctly local flavors, while the industrial interior keeps the mood relaxed and modern.
