Until the 1960s, it was not accessible by car.
Spain is one of the favorite vacation spots for millions of tourists. At the same time, away from the popular places and coastal resorts in Spain, there are many small towns and villages that offer a more peaceful, slow, and authentic vacation experience than the crowded beaches or streets of other cities. This is reported by Express.
Therefore, National Geographic experts recently named several such remote places, praising their cultural heritage and warm hospitality.
One of them was the village of Beget, which was once so isolated that it was impossible to reach by car until the 1960s, and it did not even have mobile phone service until 2023.
Experts say that this village is a treasure of Catalan culture, with its cobblestone streets, stone bridges, and beautiful nature.
Beguet is also home to the 12th-century Iglesia de Sant Cristófol, one of the most important Romanesque churches in the region.
“Surrounded by rugged mountain landscapes, it has also become a starting point for tourists traveling to the Camino de Nord, a historic route that passes through the oak forests of the Alta Garrocha,” Express added.
The route follows part of the path taken by Spanish refugees who fled to France during the Civil War, allowing modern-day tourists to explore both nature and history.
According to representatives of the tourism industry, Beget is considered one of the most charming villages in Catalonia and has remained almost unchanged since then.
“What makes Beget even more attractive is its atmosphere. Visitors describe it as a quiet and peaceful place with peaceful streets and landscapes that have remained unchanged for generations. The village has two medieval bridges and traditional stone houses that give tourists a real sense of traveling back in time,” the publication emphasized.
