The Alps without snow: five places where a summer holiday can be better than a winter one

Unexpected entertainment awaits you at these resorts.

For decades, ski resorts in Europe have measured their success by the amount of snow. However, today, as temperatures rise sharply and winters become increasingly unpredictable, they are seeking success in sunny weather. This is reported by the Daily Mail.

“From hiking and mountain biking to fine dining and luxurious spa centers — these Alpine resorts prove they can offer much more than just skiing,” the publication notes.

Lech, Austria

This picturesque village has developed one of the most exciting summer programs in the Alps.

“Lech Card” is one of the most advantageous summer passes, as it provides access to mountain lifts, buses, guided tours, kayaking, canoeing, and archery,” the publication states.

Saalbach‑Hinterglemm, Austria

This municipality has created one of the most extensive networks of cycling routes in Europe, served by lifts. They have been converted to transport mountain bikes and connect the resort with the neighboring villages of Hinterglemm, Leogang, and Fieberbrunn. Therefore, tourists can expect gentle forest trails, technical downhill tracks, and flow trails specially designed for a smooth descent down the slopes.

Megeve, France

Méribel, which the Rothschild family transformed into one of France’s most glamorous mountain resorts in the 1920s, has long attracted summer tourists with its magnificent restaurants, hotels, and charming medieval village.

“Summer mornings here can be started with a gentle climb along the Chemin du Calver — a pilgrimage route that winds past 15 tiny chapels in the direction of Mont d’Arbois. At ‘Les Fermes de Marie’, you’ll find a complex of Alpine chalets, featuring hotel rooms, restaurants, and a magnificent spa centre,” the article emphasized.

Alpe di Siusi, Italy

The largest high‑altitude alpine meadow in Europe makes tourists slow down. It is located beneath the pointed limestone towers of the Dolomites. Car traffic here is limited, which encourages visitors to explore the area on foot or by bicycle.

“Gentle trails run through hay meadows with wildflowers and past mountain huts. Many hotels offer panoramic saunas, outdoor pools, and herbal treatments,” the publications add.

Engelberg, Switzerland

The best route in this area is “Buyrabanli Safari,” which takes tourists deep into the landscape of remote alpine farms.

“Every night you spend at family farms, staying in simple guest rooms and enjoying hearty dinners. The route runs along sections of the impressive high‑altitude trail ‘Valenpfad’, through meadows and beneath towering cliffs,” the publication concluded.
