This city in Eastern Europe is famous for its colorful architecture, picturesque waterfront, and one of the largest brick churches in the world.
A Canadian traveler who has visited almost 100 countries has named one of the European cities as the best in the world, citing its rich history, architecture, and vibrant markets.
As writes DailyMail, blogger Gabriel Morris has been traveling around the world for more than three decades and has visited 98 countries on six continents. However, on his YouTube channel @GabrielTravelerVideos, he said, one undeservedly overlooked city in Poland will always be his favorite – Gdansk.
Gdansk is the sixth largest city in Poland, with a population of almost 500,000, and it is known for being the site of the first shots of World War II in 1939.
In addition to its rich history and maritime heritage, Gdansk is famous for its colorful architecture, lively markets, picturesque waterfront, and one of the largest brick churches in the world: the Basilica of St. Mary.
“I’m very glad that I decided to visit Gdansk. Gdansk is amazing. It’s one of the most amazing cities I’ve ever been to, absolutely. There’s so much to see in the city. I had no idea that Gdansk would be so phenomenal,” Gabriel said in a recent video.
The traveler added that this coastal city is “one of the most incredible” in Europe due to its architecture and unique features.
However, he emphasized that he believed the city would be even more impressive in warmer weather. During his winter visit, the temperature dropped to -1°C, while summer temperatures typically hover around a comfortable 25°C.
He said, “This gray, cloudy weather definitely doesn’t provide the best conditions for filming and sightseeing. However, it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. The atmosphere here is truly pleasant.”
If you’re willing to brave the winter cold, Gdansk is the perfect place to visit during the holiday season, as it hosts Europe’s largest Christmas market. The Christmas Market in Kraków is considered the largest Christmas event on the continent, covering over 280,000 square meters.
